WHO ARE WE:
We’re launching “Brewing Massachusetts,” a museum exhibit showcasing over four centuries of Mass. brewing history. It will tell the story of Mass. brewing through rare artifacts, photographs, and documents.The dates of the exhibit are May 30th  through October,  2026.

WHAT IS THE SCAVENGER HUNT:
As part of this exhibit, we are hosting a digital scavenger hunt which will take participants to historic taverns and beer-related sites across the state. Participants will complete a series of tasks like taking photos or videos, answering questions, or checking in at specific locations. Some questions can even be completed from home. Additional challenges may pop-up at any time throughout the Scavenger Hunt duration. Check back often to have new challenges revealed.   

WHEN IS THE SCAVENGER HUNT:
The scavenger hunt will run from May 24th - June 27th, 2026

HOW CAN YOU PLAY:
This hunt is fun for all competitors over the age of 13 and free to play. All you need is an email address. Players can play by themselves or compete as a team as long as you are registered under the same email address.

Our JOIN CODE for the Brewing the Revolution Scavenger Hunt is BREWING

Once the app has been downloaded, select "Allow Access to devices location" (some clues are solved by GPS coordinates) and create an account. Once account is created, the app will automatically join you into the "Brewing the Revolution Scavenger Hunt"

WHAT IS THE POINT:
No state has been more impacted by brewing than Massachusetts.But this story hasn’t been told in one place, until now. “Brewing Massachusetts” will be open during the 250th anniversary of 1776, a landmark nationwide event that will shine a spotlight on American history. We want to incompass the entire state in our celebration of the History of Brewing, and what better way than to include all Massachusetts-ians.

CAN I WIN?

You can! Players will earn points for each correct answer up to the total amount that can be earned of 250.

Prizes will be awarded based on the number of correctly completed challenges and how fast the challenges were completed. 
To be eligible to receive prizes*, players must reach the first threshold of 75 points.

All players that earn 75 points and receive two (2) "Brewing Massachusetts" stickers

All players that earn 125 points will receive the 75 point prize plus two (2) free tickets to the "Brewing Massachusetts" exhibit located in Old Deerfield.

First player to 150 points get a $25 gift certificate to the 99 Resturant and pub

First player to 200 points gets a $50 gift certificate to Applesbees Grill and Bar

After earning an initial 175 points the top 5 high-scorers at the end of the scavenger will receive:

Each person can only win one prize. Winners will be alerted in the app after the hunt is closed. Prizes must be collected in person at Memorial Hall Museum during museum hours (11am-430pm Tues-Sun before end of season, Oct 31st 2026).

WHAT DOES THIS COST:
This is a free contest. We do not require you to purchase anything to play. If one of the clues brings you to a local business, it will not require admission fees or to purchase anything to complete the challenge.  The player is only responsible to pay for the gas, transportation fees, lodging, any food, technology/data etc. that is encountered during the course of the game.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS OF SCAVENGER HUNT:
In the app, there is a MAP of all of the challanges and the spots that were important to Brewing during the Revolution. There are many in the same area as others, so make it easy on yourself and see which one are close by.  Just because there is a location, does not mean the challenge has to happen there. Many challenges can happen from home.

Please do not upload photos/videos that have been taken prior to the start of the competition.

Please allow for notifications from the app. This will allow the players to receive important announcements from us, the Scavenger Hunt Admins. As mentioned before, please  "Allow Access to devices location" . This will ensure GPS and ROUTE challenges can be completed effectively. Without location access, you will not be able to complete those challanges based on locations.

None of the clues will ask you to break any laws, so don't break any laws to complete them.

Please do not venture onto private property. The locations select were either pre-approved by the site themselves, or are public property. If requested to enter into a business, please only do so during business hours. 

This is a fun way to learn about the history of brewing in Massachusetts, please maintain the fun and lighthearted joy of the game. Play fair and treat other competitors as you would want to be treated. 

Use your best judgement. If it feels wrong, then it probably isn't right. Memorial Hall Museum / Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association does not assume any responsibility for any or all personal injury, death, property damage, or loss incurred while participating in the Brewing the Revolution Scavenger Hunt.

None of the photos/videos collected in the scavenger hunt challenges will be used for marketing purposes and will be deleted at the end of the game.

If there are any questions or disputes about players’ participation or the completion of any challenges, the determination made by the Scavenger Hunt Admins will be final.
